Adelaide, Jan 15 (IBNS): Former Indian cricketers have lauded the national team for beating Australia to level the three-match one Day International (ODI) series in Adelaide on Tuesday.

In reply to Australia's 298/9, India scored 299/4 with four balls to spare.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, "A great win and a fabulous innings by @imVkohli. Yet another at his adopted home ground. Excellent role played by @msdhoni and @DineshKarthik to take India over the line."

Virender Sehwag said: "Picture abhi baaki hai mere Dost ! Wonderful innings from Virat. Dhoni and Karthik finishing it in style. Will need more matches with 4-5-6 playing handy match-winning knocks."

Mohammad Kaif said: "Excellent reading of the game today by Dhoni. Karthik in the end made it easy for him but it was yet another Masterclass by Kohli that made the difference ."

Former spin bowler Harbhajan Singh tweeted, "Well done Team India @BCCI congratulations @imVkohli yet again top inn and good to see old touch of @msdhoni coming to the party. That’s the way.. keep up the good work"

VVS Laxman said on Twitter, "Fantastic run chase by India . Excellent 100 from Virat, he makes it look very easy. Was wonderful to see Dhoni finish of the game beautifully and Dinesh Karthik’s cameo was very very important in the end. The final game should be a cracker."

A brief summary of the match:

After Australia posted a massive 298 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs, Kohli and Dhoni stitched a crucial partnership as India reached the winning score.

Kohli was at his best on Tuesday when he played yet another memorable knock of 112-ball 104 runs which helped his side inch closer to victory.

Rayudu (24), Dinesh Karthik (25*), Shikhar Dhawan (32) and Rohit Sharma (43) made important contributions in the match.

An aggressive 131 by Shaun Marsh powered Australia to a commanding 298 for 9 at the end of 50 overs in the second ODI against India on Tuesday, leaving the visitors with a daunting task to score 299 to level the series.

Marsh, who has been dropped from the Test squad after failing to perform against India in the longest format, batted with vengeance to answer his critics in the shorter format, to score his seventh ODI ton in just 108 balls.

Marsh was ably supported on the other end by Glenn Maxwell who played an exciting cameo. He was dismissed for 48, after which Marsh was dismissed for 131 off 123 balls.

For India, pacer Bhubaneswar Kumar was the most successful bowler to claim four wickets giving away 45 runs. He was followed by another quickie, Mohammad Shami, who captured three wickets for 58 runs Ravindra Jadeja secured one wicket.
