Itanagar/IBNS: Arunachal Pradesh's sports legacy continues as another talented athlete, Omang Dodum, has secured a spot in India's final squad for the prestigious AFC U-17 Asian Cup, which will be held in Thailand in 2023.

The announcement was made by Bibiano Fernandes, the head coach of India's U-17 men's national team, on Tuesday. Dodum's selection reflects his rising star status in the world of football.

The 23-member national team, including Dodum, will embark on their journey to Thailand on June 1. Their campaign in the Asia Cup will commence on June 17 with a match against Vietnam, reported Northeast Now.

Subsequently, they will face Uzbekistan on June 20, followed by a crucial encounter against Japan on June 23 in Group D. The tournament will take place in Pathum Thani and Bangkok, promising an exciting and challenging competition.

Omang Dodum hails from Mlorang (Meora) village in the Bameng constituency of East Kameng district. His father, Kage Dodum, was a former professional footballer from Arunachal Pradesh. Dodum's selection in the national team not only brings pride to his family but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes from the region.

Meanwhile, in local football news, the 7th 'Inter-Frontier Football Tournament' is underway with the participation of five teams. The tournament was inaugurated by ITBP Likabali SHQ DIG Vishal Anand at the ITBP parade ground in Aalo, West Siang district, on Monday.

The opening match between North East Frontier and North West Frontier ended in a draw, with both teams scoring a goal each. The final match of the tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, where the ultimate champion will be determined.

With the inclusion of Omang Dodum in India's U-17 national team and the ongoing Inter-Frontier Football Tournament, Arunachal Pradesh's football scene continues to thrive, providing a platform for emerging talent and fostering a culture of sportsmanship within the region.
