Christchurch, Mar 15 (IBNS): The Bangladesh cricket players narrowly escaped the horror as gunmen attacked two mosques in New Zealand city Christchurch and left 49 people killed on Friday.

According to reports, the team bus was located metres away from the spot of the attack.

Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal tweeted: "Entire team got saved from active shooters!!! Frightening experience and please keep us in your prayers #christchurchMosqueAttack."

Another senior cricketer of the team Mushfique Rahim posted: "Alhamdulillah Allah save us today while shooting in Christchurch in the mosque...we r extremely lucky...never want to see this things happen again....pray for us."

Members of the Bangladesh team were just "about 50 yards from the mosque", which was the site of one of two terror attacks in Christchurch on Friday morning that resulted in multiple fatalities, Khaled Mashud, the team manager,  was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.com.

The Third Test match between Bangladesh and New Zealand has been called off.

It was scheduled to begin on Saturday.

New Zealand are already 2-0 up in the series and have won it.

Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement: " Bangladesh team will soon travel back to the country in the upcoming days."

At least 49 people have died in New Zealand's worst terror attack in which gunmen stormed two city mosques on Friday and opened fire, police commissioner Mark Bush said.

Briefing the media in Wellington, police chief Bush said: "At the Deans Avenue mosque, we now know that 41 people have lost their lives. And at Linwood Avenue, seven have lost their lives."

More than 40 have been injured and one of them has succumbed to injuries. Consequently, the death toll in this attack stands at 49.
