BCCI planning to stage IPL this year: Sourav Ganguly tells state units

Kolkata/IBNS: Indian cricket board president Sourav Ganguly has communicated to the state associations that plans to stage the suspended 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) are still on, media reports said.

In a letter to the state units, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sourav Ganguly said, "The BCCI is working on all possible options to ensure that we are able to stage the IPL this year, even if it means playing the tournament in empty stadiums."

"The fans, franchisees, players, broadcasters, sponsors and all other stakeholders are keenly looking forward to the possibility of IPL being hosted this year," he added.

This comes after the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to buy more time to take a decision on the T20 World Cup which was scheduled to be held in October-November this year.

The IPL, which is held in summer every year, was postponed due to the outbreak of the pandemic Novel Coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown.

However in the lockdown 4.0, the central government had allowed sports activities in empty stadiums.

Internationally, cricketing activities will resume with the England-West Indies Test series next month.
