Dilip Vengsarkar to get CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award
Former India Captain Dilip Vengsarkar will be the recipient of the Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award 2014.
He was nominated for the award by a committee comprising of Shekhar Gupta, Senior Media personality, Shivlal Yadav, Interim President, BCCI and Sanjay Patel, Hony. Secretary, BCCI.
One of India’s best batsmen ever, Dilip Vengsarkar came into national prominence with a belligerent hundred for Mumbai against the Rest of India in the Irani Cup game at the start of the 1975-76 season.
He was picked in the Indian team for the twin-tours of New Zealand and the West Indies later that season, and he made his Test debut against New Zealand at Auckland.
In the years that followed, he essayed some extraordinary innings against different and challenging opponents, and excelled especially against the West Indies, the most successful team of the era.
Called as "Col." by his team-mates, Vengsarkar is the only non-English batsman to score three Test hundreds at Lord’s.
The third of those hundreds – an unbeaten 126 in 1986 – set up India’s first Test win at the venue.
The second Indian to have played 100 Tests, Vengsarkar was rated the world’s number one batsman in the year 1986-87.
He was a member of the Indian team that won the World Cup in 1983 and the World Championship of Cricket in 1985, and he led India in ten Tests in 1987-89.
He was Chairman of the BCCI’s Talent Research Development Committee for three years, and the Chairman of the All-India Senior Selection Committee for the period, 2006-08.
The Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award comprises a citation, trophy and cheque for Rs. 25 Lakhs.

Another former India captain Kapil Dev won the coveted award in 2013.
Apart from Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, many other hordes of award will also be given on Friday in a gala function at the Seaside Lawns, Taj Land’s End, Bandra, Mumbai.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the winner of the annual Polly Umrigar Award, for being India’s best international cricketer of the 2013-14 season. The award comprises a trophy and a cheque for Rs. 5 lakhs.
Bhuvi gets the award for his all-round performance in 2013-14 season during which he scored 263 runs, inclusive of three fifties, and 22 wickets, from 7 Tests, 17 wickets from 22 ODIs, 7 wickets from 7 T20 Intls.
Jammu & Kashmir's only cricketer Parvez Rasool gets Lala Amarnath Award for the Best All-rounder in the Ranji Trophy for 2013-14 season. He scored 663 runs and also took 27
wickets from 9 matches. He will receive a Trophy and cheque for Rs. 2.5 lakhs.
Vinay Kumar gets Lala Amarnath Award for the Best All-round performance in Domestic limited overs competition. He gets a trophy and cheque for Rs.2.5 lakhs for scoring 113 runs and 40 wickets from 12 matches.
Kedar Jadav to get award for being the highest scorer in the Ranji season while Rishi Dhawan will be awarded for his performance with the ball.
The BCCI Awards Ceremony has been organized prior to the Indian cricket team’s departure to Australia for a Test series.
A pre-departure media conference will be held at 5:30 pm on 21 November 2014 at the Poolside Lawns, Taj Land’s End. Mr. Ravi Shastri (Director), Mr. Arshad Ayub (Team Manager) and Mr. Virat Kohli (Captain) will attend.
