England beat Scotland, register first win in WC

Christchurch, Feb 23 (IBNS): England finally returned to the path of victory by beating Scotland in a World Cup group stage clash by 119 runs here on Monday.

After posting 303 runs for the loss eight wickets, England bowlers bowled out the Scots for 184 runs in 42.2 overs.

Riding on Moeen Ali's 128 runs, England posted more than 300 runs on the scorecard.

The all-rounder batted sensibly to hit 12 boundaries and five sixes in his knock.

Ali and experienced Ian Bell (54) gave England a solid foundation at the top as the dup added 172 runs in the first wicket partnership.

Skipper Eoin Morgan later contributed 46 runs with his willow.

Scotland's Josh Davey gave away 68 runs but took four wickets for his side.

Chasing 304 for victory, Scotland never looked comfortable with only Kyle Coetzer contributing 71 runs with his bat.

The rest of the side could not even contribute much with their willows with only

Preston Mommsen (26), Matthew Cross  (23) and Majid Haq (15) touching the double figure mark.

Steve Finn, who had bowled a hat-trick in the first game against Australia, took three wickets by giving away 26 runs in the match.

England won their first match after being defeated in the first two games of the 50-over mega cricket event so far.

After the match, Morgan said: "Delighted with today's performance, today we played not within ourselves but expressed ourselves little bit, which was good to see."
