First Test: Rishabh Pant hammers stylish 96 as India post 357 for six against Sri Lanka

Mohali: Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant dominated with the willow as he scored 96 runs which helped India post 357 runs for the loss of six wickets in the first innings on the first day of the first Test match against Sri Lanka here on Friday.

Virat Kohli, who is playing his 100th Test match, was denied even scoring a fifty as he was dismissed for 45.

Hanuma Vihari (58), Virat Kohli (45), Rohit Sharma (29) and Mayank Agarwal (33) failed to convert the start they got in the match.

Sri Lankan bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals to make things a bit tough for India but it was Pant whose innings put the home side to a comfortable position in the clash.

Pant hammered nine boundaries and four sixes in the innings which deserved appreciation.

Hanuma Vihari grabbed the oppurtunity he got in the absence of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara by scoring a gritty 58.

Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten at 45.

Lasith Embuldeniya picked up two wickets for Sri Lanka.
