Fitness is all about feeling from within: Sachin Tendulkar

Kolkata, Jan 28 (IBNS): Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who had played some memorable innings in his career, said he feels that fitness is all about feeling from within.

He made the remark while speaking at a press conference organised for IDBI Federal Life Insurance Kolkata Full Marathon 2017.

Tendulkar, who was part of the 2011 World Cup winning side, said: “Fitness is not about how one look from outside.”

IDBI Federal Life Insurance is going to start their first edition of Kolkata Full Marathon this Sunday to convey the message of health and fitness across the country.

Sachin Tendulkar, the face of IDBI Federal Life Insurance Marathons in Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi would be present in the city to flag off the race on Sunday.

The full marathon will begin at 5 am and half marathon at 6.30 am and about 8000 people are going to run in this inaugural edition.

Speaking about outdoor games, Tendulkar said: “I have always been supportive for outdoor activities. Younger generation do have an access to lot of indoor games but outdoor games always give greater fitness.”

“Outdoor games provide greater absorption power, helps to stay healthy, adapt different lifestyle” he added.

The starting and finishing point of the marathon is Red Road while the race would cover different locations like Eden Gardens, Victoria Memorial, Kolkata High Court and several others.

Speaking about the utility of running and fitness, the man with 100 international hundreds said: “We can make an effort to take a small step and these gradual steps would help to achieve greater targets.”

The runners of these races would compete for a podium finish, the total prize money for which is 10 lakh rupees.

Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, the wellness partner of the marathon would provide all the emergency medical facilities with the help of around 20 doctors, 25 para medics, 60 physios and 6 ambulances.

Speaking about the inaugural edition, CEO of IDBI Federal life Insurance said: “After the rousing success of the IDBI Federal marathons across India over the past two years, we look forward to this edition and wish it a great success. We hope that people of Kolkata would come out in support and embrace the message of a healthier lifestyle.”

Speaking about Tendulkar being the face of the marathon, he said: “If someone like him is the face then it will inspire people to run.”

Nagaraj Adiga, Race Director, who organise races in different parts of India, said: “The responses in Kolkata towards the marathon are very good. The number of runners participating in the marathon is beyond our expectations.”
