Bengaluru, June 24 (IBNS) : Local lad Udayan Mane and Noida veteran Jasjeet Singh of GAIL burnt up the Par – 72 Eagleton Golf Resort to lay the marker with rounds of three-under-par 69 on a low scoring day 1 of the Tata Steel Karnataka Amateur 2014 here.

One stroke behind the joint leaders is the duo of Ankur Chadha and Nikhil Mohan at two-under 70 followed by trio of Jaibir Singh, Trishul Chinnappa and Yash Jindal, a further stroke behind at one-under 71. On a day with minimal wind interference, five players carded an even par 72 to be in touching distance of the leaders and stake a claim for themselves over the next three rounds.

Experienced hand Jasjeet, who teed off from the 1st tee made a perfect start to his round by rolling in a birdie on the Par 5 1st hole. He followed that up with four consecutive pars before another birdie on the 6th. He closed out his front nine by gaining a stroke each on the 8th and the 9th holes to go out at four-under par 32. He briefly went five-under par for the day after the 13th hole before dropping strokes on the 14th, 15th and 18th which pegged back his run to three-under par 69.

Udayan, who teed off from the 10th had a rather interesting front nine by hitting his first par of the day on his 8th hole and 17th hole of the golf course. That would be his only par as he went bogey-birdie-bogey on his first three holes.

He followed that up with a hat trick of birdies on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes of the golf course before making another bogey. He closed out with a birdie on the 18th hole of the golf course to turn over at two-under par 34. He immediately went four-under for the day by making the birdie putts on the 1st and 2nd holes and remained at four-under till making a bogey on the 8th hole to finish with a joint best card of three-under 69.

Jasjit Singh of GAIL said, “I’m playing some wonderful golf at this moment and will look to carry the momentum into the next three rounds.”

Udayan, who is the leader on the Order of Merit, was also hopeful and said, “Doing well in this event is important for me as it will stand me in good stead for the Asain Games trials coming up next week.”
