ICC ruined cricket through its rules: Shoaib Akhtar

| @indiablooms | Jun 04, 2020, at 12:15 pm

Mumbai/IBNS: Hitting out at the international cricket board for its rules, former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar recently said the International Cricket Council (ICC) has ruined the sport through its rules.

Akhtar made the comment referring to T20 cricket in an interaction with former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar on ESPNcricinfo.

When Manjrekar asked Akhtar about the reverse in bowling speeds for fast and spin bowlers in T20 cricket, the Rawalpindi Express said, "Can I tell you something bluntly? They are finishing the cricket. And they have quite successfully done that.

For the last ten years, I am openly saying that ICC successfully have finished cricket purposely and I would say job well done guys. You have done what you had thought. I have been saying this for the last ten years that the bouncer rule must be relaxed for the fast bowlers..... How will following come if there is no contest like Sachin-Shoaib?" (sic)

Akhtar and Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar during their playing days were tough opponents on field and the contest always intensified whenever India and Pakistan played against each other.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak and the lockdown, all cricket series are presently on hold though India will resume their play against Australia in months' time.
