Ind-NZ: Black Caps staring at the end of the barrel, India need three wickets to win match

Kanpur, Sept 26 (IBNS): Visitors New Zealand are staring at a loss after losing three wickets in the morning session of play as India now need three more to win the match and go up 1-0 in the three match Test series here on Monday, day five of the first match.

At lunch, New Zealand are 205 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and need 229 runs to win the match.

Heading into the day needing just six wickets to take a lead in the series, the Indian bowlers picked up three wickets even though a resolute Mitchell Santner denied them celebrations from a side.

After a five wicket haul in the first innings, Ravindra Jadeja started the day with the wicket of Luke Ronchi (80), breaking a 102 runs partnership between the latter and Santner.

A small partnership of 36 runs ensured for the following wicket between Santner and BJ Watling (18), but an explosive spell from Mohammed Shami accounted for the latter, trapping him in front as he dealt another blow to the visitors by removing Mark Craig (1) with the very next ball.

Meanwhile, Santner too completed his half-century, his first in Test cricket.

India now have over 60 overs to have a crack at the visitors.
