Ind-NZ: Gambhir departs for 50, India extend lead to 385 runs

Indore, Oct 11 (IBNS): Riding on Gautam Gambhir and Cheteshwar Pujara's respective half-centuries, India extended their lead to 385 runs against New Zealand here on Tuesday, day four of the third and final Test match of the series.

At lunch, India have put on 127 runs for the loss of two wickets.

Gambhir, who was retired hurt yesterday in the short session of play where India batted, played some delightful shots to notch up his half century.

The Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, who donned the national jersey after a long time, hit six boundaries in his 56-ball innings.

His innings was eventually cut-short by Jeetan Patel.

Earlier in the day, Murali Vijay (19) departed cheaply as he was run-out following a mix-up with his Pujara.

The latter however made his innings count and is currently unbeaten at 50 runs.

He will resume batting with Indian skipper Virat Kohli (2), who will look to score quickly to build on the lead and pile on the agony for the visitors.

Meanwhile, the ICC has confirmed on Tuesday that Indian skipper Virat Kohli will receive the Test Championship Mace following the inclusion of the Indore Test.

Former Indian skipper and batting great Sunil Gavaskar will present the silverware to the Indian skipper.
