India 196/5 at the end of 40 overs

Sydney, Mar 26(IBNS) Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni continued to wage a grim battle as India was 196 for five wickets at the end of the 40th over in their ICC World Cup semi-final match against Australia here on Thursday, standing too far away from a victory target of 329.

Dhoni with 42 off 49 balls and allrounder Ravindra Jadeja at 9, India now needs to score 133 runs in the remaining ten overs with a fanciful run rate of 13  per over against Mitchell Johnsons and Mitchell Starcs.

Earlier, openers Shikhar Dhawan (45), Virat Kohli (1), Rohit Sharma (34) and Azinkya Rahane returne (44) returned to the pavilion in the face of the Australian pace attack, leaving India in a dire strait.

Australian pacer Mitchell Johonson claimed two wickets giving  away 45 runs while Mitchell Star, Josh Hazelwood and James Faulkner  bagged one each..

Australia posted 328 runs fore the loss seven wickets in 50 overs.
