Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat cruises to Olympic semi-final after registering two memorable victories

India's Vinesh Phogat cruised to the semi-finals of the women’s 50kg freestyle event of the ongoing Paris Olympics by beating CWG gold-medallist Ukrainian wrestler Oksana Livach 7-5 on Tuesday.

This is Phogat's first semi-final outing in the Olympics.

More than her quarter-final bout, it was Phogat's surprise victory against Japanese star wrestler Yui Susaki in the earlier round that would go down as one of the memorable victories in her career.

Shocking Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Yui Susaki, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat registered a memorable victory in the women’s 50kg freestyle round of 16 clash of the ongoing Paris Olympics on Tuesday.

The Indian wrestler came from behind to win the high-octane match 3-2.

Phohgat was trailing the match 1-0 in the first phase of the game.

 Displaying her extraordinary resilience and tactical acumen in the second period, the Indian wrestler bounced back to beat her Japanese opponent and cruise to the quarter-finals.

The win will remain as one of the major victories in her career since her Japanese opponent is a three-time world champion and the reigning Asian champion.
