IPL set to begin in September in UAE: Reports

Mumbai/IBNS: The 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), a T20 cricket tournament which was postponed due to Covid-19, is set to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September, various media reports said.

The IPL is likely to begin on Sept 19 and the final of the mega tournament might take place on Nov 8.

However, no official confirmation has yet arrived over the matter.

Indian cricket board president Sourav Ganguly has maintained the cash-rich tournament will be held sometime in 2020.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been able to think of organising this year's IPL only after the International Cricket Council (ICC) postponed the T20 World Cup, which was scheduled to be held in Australia in October-November.

Earlier in 2009 and 2014, the IPL had moved out of India due to the General Elections in the Asian country.

While the IPL was hosted by South Africa in 2009, UAE had hosted a few matches of the tournament in 2014.
