It was a significant match of the tournament as Chennaiyin's forward Balwant Singh became the first Indian goalscorer in the tournament.
The visitors soon took a 2-0 lead as Elano scored the second goal for the team.
Goa came out in the second half with renewed vigour but the opponent side' defence saved themselves from any probable damage.
Goa's Central defender Gregory Arnolin netted a goal to reduce the margin of defeat.
With the win, Chennaiyin became the first away team to register a victory in the tournament.
