Manchester, July 4 (IBNS): Kuldeep Yadav and KL Rahul played their roles strongly as India defeated England by eight wickets in the first T20 International match of the series here on Tuesday.

Kuldeep picked up five wickets as England were restricted at 159 runs for the loss of eight wickets as India reached 163 runs by losing just two wickets and 10 balls to spare.

Rahul smashed a brilliant 101 runs knock.

He hit 10 boundaries and five sixes in his smartly played innings on the English soil.

After Shikhar Dhawan (4) perished early, Rohit Sharma (32) and Rahul continued the Indian batting ship to sail smoothly on the park.

Sharma hammered three boundaries a six in his 30-ball knock.

Rashid picked up Sharma's wicket in the 13th over of the game but it was by then too late for England to get back into the game.

With Rahul on the other end of the crease, skipper Virat Kohli (20) joined the proceedings and ensured India's victory in the first match on the English soil.

Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav bowled magnificently and picked up five wickets as England were restricted at 159 runs in 20 overs.

Umesh Yadav took two wickets.

Buttler remained the top scorer for England with his 69 runs knock.
