New York;  Naomi Osaka received a jolt as she was defeated by Canada's Leylah Fernandez in the third round match of the US Open.

Osaka is the current US Open defending champion.

After the match, Osaka expressed doubt on her next performance on the Tennis court.

"I honestly don't know when I'm going to play my next tennis match," Osaka said through tears in a press conference as quoted by CNN. "I think I'm going to take a break from playing for a while."

Fernandez defeated Osaka by 5-7, 7-6, 6-4, to break through to the Round of 16 of a major for the first time.

In her next round clash, the Canadian will face No. 16 seed and three-time major champion Angelique Kerber of Germany.
