Pankaj Advani Wins 12th World Billiards Title
According to reports, World Champion Advani outplayed his opponent to lift his 12th title in the ‘Timed Format’ in what looked like a one-sided final.
With this win, he became the first player ever to bag a triple grand double.
In other words, Advani became the first player ever to win titles in both formats thrice.
Pankaj has already pocketed two ‘grand doubles’ in 2005 and 2008 respectively.
The 29-year-old, Bangalore-based cueist had won the title in the ‘Points Format’ last week by beating Peter Gilchrist, current World No. 1 in the Finals.
After Wednesday’s win, Advani said: "I made Grand Double in 2008 in Bangalore, but it is always great to win outside home and I just can't describe my emotions now because it has been crazy here. I have also worked really hard to win some of the major tournaments this year."
It is noteworthy to mention here that Pankaj has recently returned to professional billiards circuit after a two-year break, during which he spent time on the professional snooker circuit.
Former Indian cueist and nine-time World Champion Geet Sethi congratulated Pankaj for his title and also hailed him as the most successful Indian cuesport player ever.
“Congrats @PankajAdvani247 for your 12th world title. U have become by far the most successful Indian cuesport player ever,” Geet wrote in the micro-blogging site.
