Sunfeast hosts school football league in Kolkata
Kolkata, Dec 13 (IBNS): The Sunfeast Kolkata School Football League managed by Sports Connect was recently hosted here.
The sporting event was initiated to provide young talent a platform and encourage sports in the region, an official statement from the company claimed.
The football league took place from Nov 20 to Dec 11 at NKDA Stadium in Kolkata's Rajarhat.
AIFF Vice President Subrata Dutta, MP & Former India Captain Prasun Banerjee, former India captain Bhaskar Ganguly and former Iranian international Jamshed Nassiri inaugurated the league to support the young talent.
The football league hosted a set of matches between 10 prominent English medium schools.
St James School bagged the winner's trophy.
Commenting on the league, Paritosh Wali, Chief Operating Officer, Biscuits & Confections Cluster, Foods Division, ITC Limited said: “Encouraged by the tremendous support and consistent popularity of the football tournaments, we have expanded our activities beyond Sunfeast Cup in North East where more than 500 teams participate."
Chief Guest at the event, Mayor In Council (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) Debashish Kumar said: “We are glad to see many talented football players in Kolkata who can be enabled to become professional players. I really appreciate the efforts taken by Sunfeast biscuits from ITC foods and the organizers to identify upcoming talent in the city.”
