T20 World Cup: Australia-England match called off as rain plays spoilsport

| @indiablooms | Oct 29, 2022, at 04:53 pm

Melbourne/IBNS: A crucial Group 1 match between two mighty teams, host Australia and England, in the T20 World Cup was abandoned due to rain at Melbourne Cricket Ground here Friday.

Both the teams were awarded one point each leaving the group's contest wide open.

England, who are at the second position in the points table, will at least have to win the last two group matches but that won't alone ensure their advancement to the semi finals.

The English team's points are at par with New Zealand and Ireland.

Despite having three points like that of New Zealand, England and Ireland, Australia are placed in the fourth rank owing to their poorer net run rate.

Earlier, England were stunned by Ireland who had pulled off a victory keeping the contest in the group interesting.

The loser of the Australia-England match would have found themselves out of the tournament straightaway had rain not played the spoilsport.
