Team Arun Jain reaches final of All India Bridge Championship

Kolkata/IBNS: Displaying fine form, Team Arun Jain represented by Arun Jain, Gopika Tandon, Subir Majumdar, Srinivasan Iyer and R Sridharan  stormed their way into the final of the team event defeating Bangur  Cement by 107-55 Victory Points (VPs) on the penultimate day of the  7th All India Shree Cement Bridge Championship at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata on Saturday.

At the end of the third of the four-session semi final, Bangur Cement conceded the match as their opponents forced an unassailable lead of 55 VPs.

In the first two sessions Arun Jain scored 24 and 59 VPs against 13 and 11 VPs by Bangur Cement.

In the title clash tomorrow Arun Jain will meet the winners of the match between title holders Formidables and Pradeep which is being keenly contested.

At the end of the third session Formidables were leading by 12.67 VPs.

Earlier in the quarter finals, Arun Jain outplayed their opponent RICS with a big margin and RICS also conceded their match after the former took an unassailable lead of 52 VPs (90 - 28 VPs) after the second session.

RICS, after displaying impressive performance against strong contender Dhampur Sugar Mills and beating them in pre quarter finals by 82-70.5 VPs, failed to repeat their performance against experienced Team Arun Jain.

In the other quarter finals, Pradeep managed to scrape through a fighting Rana by a margin of 1.50 VPs which turned out to be the lowest margin in any of the matches here so far. 

In the two other matches of the last eight stage Bangur Cement defeated Indian Chain 77.3-59 VPs and Formidables easily got over the challenge from Shree Cement 88- 43.3 VPs.

Meanwhile, the preliminary round for the Pairs event has started today where a total of 108 duos are staking their claim for the top honours.

Out of these participants, 50 will qualify for the final round tomorrow along with two more pairs to be nominated as sponsors' quota.
