Third Test: India win, Ashwin breaks several records

Nagpur, Nov 27 (IBNS) Ravichandran Ashwin single-handedly mauled South Africa by claiming a career best 7 wickets in an innings, as India clinched the match and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, here on day three of the third Test match against South Africa.

Ashwin produced a career best 7 wickets for 66 runs and also claimed 12 wickets in the match. With another five wicket haul, he also completed the 15th five-for of his career and with 56 wickets sits at the top spot among bowlers with the highest number of wickets in the ongoing year, ahead of Stuart Broad (51).

South Africa, who managed a much better performance in their second innings with the bat, scoring 185 runs, lost the match by 124 runs and in the process lost a series after 11 years, thus bringing an end to their 15 series winning streak.

Apart from Ashwin, Amit Mishra picked up 3 wickets as spinners kept a firm grip on the match.

Earlier today, South African captain Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis managed to keep the Indian bowlers at bay by forming a partnership, but Amit Mishra sent back both in the space of 2 overs.

With Amla and du Plessis back in the hut, it was a matter of time before Virat and company came out on top. It happened once the new ball was taken as Ashwin came back with a brilliant spell of spin bowling to take the remaining four wickets and finish off proceedings.

Ravichandra Ashwin was adjudged the Man-of-the-match.
