UAE’s Usman reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Dubai, Jan 26 (IBNS) United Arab Emirates middle-order batsman Mohammad Usman has received an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second day’s play in the ICC Intercontinental Cup match against the Netherlands in Abu Dhabi.

The player was found to have breached Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.

The incident happened in the 29th over of the UAE’s second innings when Usman, after being given out leg before, showed dissent at the decision by first pointing at his bat and then occupying the crease for an extended period of time before leaving.

Following the match, which the Netherlands won by four wickets, Usman admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by David Jukes of the ICC Regional Referees Panel. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Sarika Prasad and CK Nandan, and reserve umpire Rabiul Hoque.

For all first offences, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee.
