Vijender is the right person to decide on his professional career: Mary Kom
Speaking on the decision taken by 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Vijender Singh, she said: "We all know that it is not my decision, It is Vijender's decision and I think it is better to ask him."
"I had a mixed feeling as a colleague. I was feeling both sad and okay with his decision. He has already participated in three Olympics and won in one. So , it is now upto him to take a decision. I cannot take the decision, neither can the goverment. Only, he can do it," MC Mary Kom told reporters here.
Vijender Singh turned professional on last Monday as he signed a multi-year promotional agreement with Queensberry Promotions through IOS Sports & Entertainment that will see the middleweight fighter a minimum of six games in the first year as he looks to herald in a new era for Asian boxing.
The announcement over Singh's new move was made in London.
She said she wants to perform well in the upcoming tournaments for India.
"I just want to do better in the coming competitions," she said.
Kom announced that the 2016 Rio Olympics is likely to be her last appearance in competitive boxing.
"I have decided beforehand that this will be my last Olympics," she said.
Kom said she will like to groom more champion boxers for the country in the upcoming years.
"I want to do some social works...I am opening my boxing academy and also I want to groom many more champions in India after my retirement," said the Olympic bronze medallist boxer.
