Ban praises small islands' commitment to climate change

New York, Apr 3 (IBNS): United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday praised the commitment by small islands in the Pacific to low-carbon development and urged them to continue their ambitious efforts to combat climate change and spur other nations to come to a binding agreement on this issue next year.

WHO works on to contain Ebola outbreak in Guinea

New York, Apr 2 (IBNS): The number of suspected and confirmed cases of Ebola (EVD) in Guinea has jumped from 103 to 122 in just three days, with 80 confirmed deaths, said the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO), which will now focus on preventing further transmissions of the often fatal disease.

7 million premature deaths annually linked to air pollution

Geneva, Mar 31 (IBNS) In new estimates released last week, WHO reports that in 2012 around 7 million people died - one in eight of total global deaths – as a result of air pollution exposure. This finding more than doubles previous estimates and confirms that air pollution is now the world’s largest single environmental health risk. Reducing air pollution could save millions of lives.
