Nearly 14,000 people become new citizens of India as land swap starts

Cooch Behar, West Bengtal, Aug 1 (IBNS) Nearly 14,000 people became Indian nationals one minute past midnight on Saturday as India gained access to 55 Bangladeshi enclaves in a historic land swap amid a huge celebration of crowds who remained stateless for nearly 70 years.

New Delhi/Dhaka, July 31: In a historic event which will end four decades of deadlock, India and Bangladesh are all set to start the exchange of 162 enclaves from Friday to accord nationality to more than 51,000 people.
