Rs 5,700 crore immediate loss to J & K economy; tourism hit hardest

Jammu, Sept 14 (IBNS): Even as Srinagar city continues to suffer due to recent floods in the entire state and over five lakh people are still stranded in the valley, the calamity in Jammu and Kashmir has caused an immediate loss of Rs 5,400-5700 crore, well exceeding 10 % of the state’s GDP with heavy damages to trade, hotels,restaurants, horticulture and handicraft besides throwing completely out of gear basic infrastructure of power, railways and communication.

Water recedes, but Kashmir still reels under flood

Srinagar, Sept 9 (IBNS) While the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir remained grim and vast stretches remained cut off, in some parts of the state water has started receding enabling a little better rescue and relief operations on Tuesday by the Army and other groups.
