Vrindavan all set to celebrate Holi

The mood in Lord Krishna's birthplace Vrindavan (actual birthplace is 10 km away in Mathura, all part of Braj Bhumi in Uttar Pradesh) is all set for its famous annual Holi (the festival of colours) celebration after a gap of almost two years owing to the pandemic. Photographer Suryodoy Mandal captures the scenes at the temples of Vrindavan, including the famous Banke Bihari and ISKCON temples. Devotees are seen hustling to have a glance of the deity of Krishna at the Banke Bihari Temple of Vrindavan.

Amid fears of rising cases of coronavirus, Kolkata on Sunday (March 28, 2021) celebrates the festival of colour-'Holi'. West Bengal celebrates Holi as 'Dol Jatra'. Here people observe this day by placing the idols of Krishna and Radha on a Palki (Palinquin) and they carry them around and play with Abir (Gulal). IBNS captures scenes of spirited Holi celebrations from India's eastern city Kolkata. Holi is a spring festival celebrated with vibrancy as people smear each other with colours. It is celebrated in the month of Phalgun on full moon day in keeping with the Hindu calendar. Bengal also has a tradition of organising Holi celebrations inspired by the songs and dance of Bengali cultural icon Rabindranath Tagore.
