UN chief praises Japanese climate resilience, as Typhoon Hagibis cleanup begins

New York: With Typhoon Hagibis causing destruction and loss of life in Japan, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has praised the leadership role the country is playing in climate resilience, and its “extensive and efficient preparation for this latest extreme weather event”.

Tokyo (Xinhua/UNI) Typhoon Hagibis made landfall on the Izu Peninsula on Japan's main island at 7:00 p.m. Saturday local time, bringing heavy downpours and winds, while the country's weather agency issued heavy rain emergency warnings for more prefectures.
