New Delhi/UNI: The United Kingdom on Thursday announced relaxation in the Covid-19 travel restrictions for India, moving it from the red to the amber list, effective from August 8 (Sunday).

According to a press release from the UK High Commission, visit visas to England from India are open. This is in addition to long-term visas that have remained open.

Travellers arriving in England can complete a 10-day quarantine at home or in the place they are staying, and will not have to undergo mandatory quarantine in a managed hotel.

Under the voluntary Test to Release scheme, visitors from India can choose to pay for a private Covid-19 test on day 5 of the quarantine. If the result is negative, they can end their quarantine, it said.

"From 4am (BST) on Sunday 8 August, India will move from the red to the amber list," it said.

Besides India, Bahrain, Qatar and UAE will also move to the amber list. The countries moving to the green list from amber are: Austria, Germany, Latvia, Norway, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The UK moved some countries to the red list. These are: Georgia, Mayotte, Mexico and Reunion.
