Foreign tourist arrivals go up in July compared to a year ago
FTAs in July, 2016 were 7.36 lakh compared to FTAs of 6.28 lakh in July, 2015 and 5.69 lakh in July, 2014.
FTAs during January- July, 2016 were 49.22 lakh, up 10.0% from the same period in 2015, which recorded FTAs of 44.73 lakh (up 4.6% over January- July, 2014).
Bangladesh (17.30%) accounted for highest share of tourist arrivals in July 2016 followed by the US (16.51%) and the UK(11.67%).
Other countries include Malaysia (3.49%), France (3.12%), Sri Lanka (2.94%), Canada (2.66%), China (2.32%), Germany (2.31%), Japan (2.20%), Australia (2.20%), Nepal (2.04%), Oman (2.04%), UAE (1.99%) and Pakistan (1.66%).
Among the airports, Delhi Airport (26.22%) and Mumbai Airport (17.04%) saw the maximum foreign tourist arrival.
Other airports include Chennai (10.11%), Bengaluru (7.31%), Cochin (5.14%), Hyderabad (5.04%), Kolkata (4.20%), Ahmadabad (1.91%), Trivandrum (1.91%), Tiruchirapalli (1.55%) and Amritsar (0.97%) .
Among the land and rail check posts, Haridaspur land check post (9.82%) saw the maximum arrival followed by Gede rail station (1.97%), Attari-Wagah land check post (1.09%) and Ghojadanga land check post (0.71%).
In July 2016, India earned Rs.14,319 crore in foreign exchange through tourism.
Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) in July 2015 were Rs.11,982 crore and Rs.10,284 crore in July, 2014.
