International air travel costliest from Canada

Toronto Sept 11 (IBNS): According to a new report published by air travel website Kiwi.com, international flights from Canada are the most expensive in the world.

Among the 75 world’s most popular destinations, Canada ranked last for cost of international flights on both full service and low cost airlines.

According to the report an average international flight from Canada costs $123.52 per 100 kilometers on big airlines like Air Canada or West Jet and $57.02 per 100 kilometers on a low cost airline like Air Transat.

After Canada, next in line of most expensive international air travel countries are Oman and Taiwan. However, due to conversion rates, Taiwanese pay only half the price of what Canadians shell out on international air travel.

Contrarily, the report says, the cheapest international flights can be found from China at only $3.71 per 100 kilometers.

Furthermore, flights operating internationally from the neighboring US are also substantially less expensive around $23.55 per 100 kilometers on a full service airline.

The report further states for both domestic as well as international Canada ranks 70 out of 75 for cost.

However, the aviation industry report does not surprise travel expert Marrie Cowell.

“We have always been told that we are very big country with a very small population and demand-supply rules apply here too”, she says. “There is no competition here. There is a duopoly here with West Jet and Air Canada and competitors do not have a place to come here,” she adds.

Despite the high cost attached with travel, Canadian and international airlines are still adding more routes into key destinations in the country. In 2015 and 2016, the trends have seen , new flights between Vancouver and Rome, Dublin, Brisbane, Delhi and several Asian cities , thus helping air travel further.
