Jammu and Kashmir: JKSA establish helpline, offer free accommodation for tourists
Srinagar/UNI: Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has established helpline and online platforms to address the issues of tourists who got stranded in the Kashmir valley due to closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway and cancellation of all air traffic since Sunday due to heavy snowfall.
The Tourism Department, Kashmir, and Houseboat owners have already announced to provide free accommodation to stranded tourists.
''We have also decided to offer free accommodation and other help to tourists stranded in the valley'', JKSA spokesman Nasir Khuehami said on Wednesday.
''Today we have established the helpline and online platforms and stranded tourists can contact for any help, he said adding we have set up helpline numbers in every district for tourists who can contact us for any help.
In fact we have taken up the issue with the authorities and are in constant touch with district administration, particularly in Srinagar, to provide any help and assistance to tourists, who are our guests'', Khuehami told UNI.
He said the Association has also contacted hotels and other guest houses to accommodate stranded guests.
''Tourists are our guests and we are ready to assist and help them to make them feel at home. It has reaffirmed the pledge to carry forward its mission and help in easing out the problems of the stranded people. The student organisation has requested the stranded tourists to contact helpline number for any exigency."
He said the JKSA has also made arrangements to provide free accommodation to tourist who got stuck due to cancellation of their flights and closure of the highway due to snowfall.
Association will assist all stranded tourists, including route clearance updates, accommodation issues and transportation, the tourists can contact helpline numbers for immediate help. It is especially for those tourists who were scheduled to leave, but could not leave for their homes due to heavy snowfall as flights got cancelled since Sunday. Many among them will not have the resources or money to stay in the hotels now, he said adding we have decided to provide them accommodation and other help till the weather improves.
