Yangon, June 14 (IBNS): Yangon Aerodrome Company Ltd will organize a one-day roadshow in Kolkata to promote air travel between Myanmar and India, two countries which share strong historical and cultural ties, the operator of Yangon International Airport (“YIA”) said on Friday.

YACL and one of the Indian airline operators, IndiGo will co-host the Enchanting Myanmar 2019, India event at JW Marriott Hotel in Kolkata on 14 June which is expected to gather 500 representatives from airlines and travel operators from the two countries.

Other representatives from Myanmar participating in the event include Myanmar Tourism Federation and its member, as well as Myanmar Airways International, said YACL which has operated YIA since 2015. Currently, the only Indian airline operating at YIA is Air India, which operates three scheduled flight per week to and from New Delhi. YACL said that the roadshow would raise awareness about the airport and promote air connectivity between India and Myanmar. YIA handled a total of 6.035 million passengers in 2018.

“We are excited to host the roadshow with IndiGo in Kolkata. Myanmar and India are neighbouring countries with strong cultural and historical ties and, as the operator of the aviation gateway to Myanmar, we are pleased and look forward to forging stronger aviation links between the two countries,” said Mr. Jose Angeja, Chief Operating Officer at YACL. “With the Myanmar Government granting visas-on-arrival to Indian passport holders, travel to Myanmar is now more easily accessible for Indian nationals. This roadshow is an important occasion for us to collaborate with our Indian counterparts and partners to develop more routes so more people can experience what Myanmar has to offer, and vice-versa.”
