Gilgit Baltistan, 06 AUGUST, 2019:- These people who recently took to the streets of Gilgit are demanding their share of compensation which they have been denied since 1949 by successive governments of Pakistan. The government has not been able to provide compensation for the land, property, and resources that were acquired in the name of the development, decades ago. Protesters say that their ancestors became homeless overnight after the acquisition drive was started by Pakistan in the aftermath of its illegal occupation of the territory. The people who were unaware of ill-intent of Islamabad supported the decision and vacated their homes voluntarily and inflicted pain and suffering upon themselves. However, Pakistan which never considered them its own did not pay them even the market price of the land.
