French citizens vote to elect their next president
According to some polls 39-year-old Macron, a symbol of radical centrism, is a favourite over Le Pen who though is expected to register the best election result for her party National Front which was founded by her father in 1972.
If elected, Macron, of the En Marche (Onward) movement, without the backing of any big political party, will be youngest French president.
Voting in the country started from 8 am.
French citizens witnessed a rigorous campaign between Emmanuel Macron, the former investment banker and nationalist Marine Le Pen, 48.
Voting will continue till 7 PM while in some stations, it will stretch upto 8 PM.
While Macron is pro-business, Le Pen campaigned for France first, anti-immigration programme.
Macron is also a strong supporter of European Union.
However, Le Pen wants to hold a referendum on France's EU membership.
