Manchester blast: UK names attacker, to deploy soldiers in key places

London, May 24 (IBNS): The UK police have named the suspect involved in the Manchester suicide attack which claimed at least 22 lives and injured another 59 people, reports said.

The suspect has been identified as Salman Abedi.

Investigators are now determining if Abedi acted alone or had help from accomplices.

While deeming the recent attack as 'critical', the highest form of terror threat, UK Prime Minister Theresa May has said that she'll deploy soldiers in key posts, who'll work under the command of police officials and ensure public protection.

May, in her statement also said that she does not want the public to feel "unduly alarmed" but added that the step was "proportionate and sensible response".

This is the third time UK has deemed an attack as the highest level of threat.

Though the Islamic State has owned the Manchester Attack, the UK police is yet to verify the former's claim.

The incident took place on Monday night, following the conclusion of American singer Ariana Grande's pop concert.

Meanwhile, the suicide attack also prompted May to postpone her general election campaigning, as flags in official places were flown at half mast.

The incident also invited heavy criticism from other world leaders.

While Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the attack and mourned the departed, French President Emmanuel Macron extended his hand and said that the UK and France will fight terrorism together.

Chinese President Xi Jingping had a telephonic conversation with Queen Elizabeth, where he condoled the loss.
