Philippines: Duterte promises to have son killed if proven guilty of drug trafficking

Manila, Sep 22 (IBNS): Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, who is facing a mass protest in the nation amid strict anti-drug operations, said he will order his son's death if found guilty of the charges he's facing, reports said.

Duterte's 42-year-old son, Paolo, has been accused of drug trafficking.

However appearing before a senate enquiry earlier this month, Paolo has refuted all allegations as baseless.

The 72-year-old President, who took office in July 2016, has faced harsh criticism from international human rights watch dogs for his extra-judicial killings of suspects in drug related cases.

"My order is to kill you if you are caught. And I will protect the police who kill you, if it is true," Duterte told reporters he had told his son Paolo.

Meanwhile, thousands took to the streets to demonstrate against Duterte's actions, burning effigies of the President, outside the presidential palace in Manila, as well as universities and military headquarters, BBC reported.
