Ottawa, Oct 16 (IBNS): A drone, for the first time in Canada, has collided with an inbound passenger aircraft to Jean Lesage International Airport in Quebec city, according to Transport ministry.

However, the aircraft, which sustained minor damage, landed safely.

Following the incident, Canadian Transport ministry issued interim safety measures, restricting where the drones can be flown off, violating which any person will be fined $25,000 and or jail.

The restrictions are applicable to any size and type of drones.

Issuing a statement, Canadian transport minister, Marc Garneau, said: "Transport Canada is monitoring the situation and is in contact with its transportation partners including Skyjet, the Jean Lesage International Airport and NAV CANADA. My department is in contact with the Service de police de la Ville de Québec and we will cooperate with the Transportation Safety Board should they decide to investigate."

"I would like to remind the public that all drone users are required to abide by the Canadian Aviation Regulations, including the Interim Order Respecting the use of Model Aircraft," the minister said.

The collision between the drone and the Skyjet flight occurred on October 12, transport ministry stated.
