Saudi Arabia arrests: Trump comes to King Salman's rescue

India Blooms News Service | @indiablooms | 07 Nov 2017, 10:44 am

Riyadh/Washington, Nov 7 (IBNS): In the wake of rampant arrests sweeping Saudi Arabia, US President Donald Trump has tweeted in favour of the the King and the Crown Prince of the regime, saying that "they know exactly what they are doing".

"I have great confidence in King Salman and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, they know exactly what they are doing," Trump, who is presently touring Asia, tweeted.

In an ensuing tweet, he said, "Some of those they are harshly treating have been 'milking' their country for years!"

Alleging corruption against certain influential royals and businessmen, the regime has made at least 49 arrests.

Experts have opined that it was done in order to eliminate potential competition for Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, popularly known as MBS.

The Crown Prince is widely popular among the young generation of Saudis, as they perceive him as modern and moderate.

MBS too has pledged a moderate and open Saudi Arabia, breaking the ultraconservative rules that make the nation prone to criticism.

In recent months, the nation has relaxed certain rules for women, including that of allowing females to drive and allowing them to enter a stadium to witness an event.
