Zimbabwe gear up for anti-Mugabe rally
Harare, Nov 18 (IBNS): Amid the chaos surrounding Zimbabwe politics at the moment, the country is gearing up for a mass anti-Mugabe rally on Saturday.
According to media reports, protesters have already started gathering in the country capital, Harare, where they will rally for the current President Robert Mugabe's resignation.
Mugabe, 93, has been ruling the nation for over 30 years now.
Before he took oath as the President of Zimbabwe in 1987, he served as the Prime Minister of the country for seven years, starting from 1980.
Meanwhile, Saturday's rally is supported by the Zimbabwean army.
The Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) said in a statement on Friday, "ZDF is therefore advising the nation that for as long as the planned march remains orderly, peaceful... and without hate speech and incitement to cause violence, it fully supports the march."
Several liberal groups too have supported the march.
Things went pear shared for the veteran politician after he sacked his powerful Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week.
Political commentators have said that the move was ill conceived and was done to promote Mugabe's wife, Grace.
Several others have also blamed Grace and her political ambitions for bringing the downfall of Zimbabwe's longest serving President.
The President is presently facing house arrest and appeared for the first time since military takeover on Friday.
