Harare, Nov 24 (IBNS): Emmerson Mnangagwa was sworn-in as the new president of Zimbabwe on Friday.

The ceremony took place in a  packed stadium in Harare city of the country.

"Mr Mnangagwa, who had fled the country, returned from exile on Wednesday," BBC reported.

Zimbabwe's political scenario has been witnessing a turmoil in recent times.

Ending four decades of rule, Robert Mugabe resigned as Zimbabwe’s president on Tuesday.

This comes after the Zimbabwean army along with Mugabe's former political allies started demanding his resignation.

Before he took oath as the President of Zimbabwe in 1987,  Mugabe served as the Prime Minister of the country for seven years, starting from 1980.

The 93-year-old had held on to the position for a week even after an army takeover.

Things went pear shared for the veteran politician after he sacked Emmerson Mnangagwa last week.
