CapeTown, Feb 12 (IBNS): South African President Jacob Zuma, who is facing a wave of criticism for alleged corruption, is likely to be asked to step down by the ruling ANC party.

Acknowledging that the party faithfuls want to see a change, ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa told a crowd in Cape Town on Sunday: "As you have all heard, the National Executive Committee of the ANC will be meeting tomorrow... and because our people want this matter to be finalised, the NEC will be doing precisely that."

"We must work together as Madiba [Nelson Mandela] taught us to push back the frontiers of poverty, unemployment and inequality," he said.

Zuma, 75, who is in power since 2009, is facing several corruption charges, which he has declined.

According to News24, ANC members are likely to get rid of him today.

"Zuma has humiliated the ANC enough, we must end this thing on Monday," an NEC member was quoted as saying by the outlet.

The party is also hoping to appoint Ramaphosa as the state President.
