France yellow vest demonstration: President Emmanuel Macron promises wage rise
Paris, Dec 11 (IBNS): Amid weeks of protests in several parts of the nation, including Paris city, France President Emmanuel Macron promised a minimum wage rise and tax concessions on Monday.
The nation witnessed violence in the past four weekends over issues like fuel tax rises and living costs.
Speaking in a televised address, Macron condemned the violence but said the protesters' anger was "deep, and in many ways legitimate", reported BBC.
In his address, the President announced that the minimum wage would increase by 100 euros per month from 2019.
As per BBC report, about 136,000 "yellow-vest" protesters took to the streets on Saturday. More than 1,200 were taken into custody.
In the Paris city, windows were smashed, cars were burned and shops looted by demonstrators.
The anti-government demonstration in Paris turned violent as police fired tear gas on protesters on Saturday, media reports said.
