Terrorist arrested in Myanmar western state: police

Yangon, Apr 8 (Xinhua/UNI) The Myanmar authority has arrested a member of terrorist group Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) in a border town in the country's western Rakhine state, according to the Police Force Monday.

The security force seized Osman Gawni on March 30 for his suspicious behavior in Maungtaw township, Rakhine state. After interrogation, he was found to be involved in the attack on a police outpost in August 2017 and is reportedly an absconder from a case under the Counter-Terrorism Law. He had been hiding in Kutupalong refugee camp in Bangladesh before returning to Myanmar.

The security forces vowed to deploy numerous personnel to scour the vicinity of the ARSA's temporary base camp. The curfew has been in place in Maungtaw and Buthidaung townships in the state since 2016.

On April 2, the state authorities imposed the dusk-to-dawn curfew on five more townships -- Yathedaung, Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk U and Minpya. The curfew, which takes effect from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (local time), will last about two months.

The implementation of the curfew came as militants in Rakhine state, disguising as civilians, launched attacks on government's security forces recently, resulting in casualties and destruction of civilian houses.
