Australian trekker dies of high altitude sickness in Nepal
Kathmandu, Apr 24 (Xinhua/UNI) An Australian trekker died of the high altitude sickness at a hotel near at Pasanglhamu rural municipality-4 of Khumbu region in Nepal, police said here on Wednesday.
Philip Markart Garz, 31, passed away on the base camp of the peak at around 1:00 p.m. local time on Monday when he was taking a rest at the hotel, Police Inspector Uttam Karki said.
"We came to know about the incident only yesterday and a police team rushed immediately to the place where he died," Karki told Xinhua by phone on Wednesday.
According to Karki, the reason behind his death is the high altitude sickness. "It takes three days of walking to reach the base camp of Mt. Qomolangma from the place where he breathed his last," he said.
His body was sent to Nepal's capital Kathmandu on Wednesday morning.
The place, where the Australian died, is one of the popular destinations for foreigners.
