Car explosion on highway in western Colombia kills 7, injures 11: Local Army Chief
Moscow/Sputnik/UNI: At least seven people have died, and 11 others were injured as a result of a car explosion in western Colombia, Major General Jorge Isaacs Hoyos Rojas, a local army commander, said on Tuesday.
According to the Colombian El Pais newspaper, citing Rojas, the explosion took place on Monday evening on the highway in the municipality of Rosa in the Cauca department.
Initially, it was assumed that the blast was an attack aimed at regional military units. However, the army later reported that a public service vehicle had exploded.
"This is not an attack, it is a public transport that was traveling from the city of Pasto to Cali, it was in motion when it exploded. Those who were in the car died. There were seven people. Those who were in the other two cars were injured," the major general was quoted as saying by the media outlet.
Rojas added that the explosion hit two more cars that were passing by during the incident. An investigation is underway.
