COVID-19: Tech giants come together to combat misinformation
Washington, Mar 17 (UNI) The world's major tech companies Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Reddit, Twitter and YouTube have joined hand to fight against the fake news and misinformation about the coronavirus on their platforms, the tech giants said in a joint statement said.
In the statement, issued on Monday, the companies said they are working closely together on COVID-19 response efforts.
"We’re helping millions of people stay connected while also jointly combating fraud and misinformation about the virus, elevating authoritative content on our platforms, and sharing critical updates in coordination with government healthcare agencies around the world. We invite other companies to join us as we work to keep our communities healthy and safe," they said in the statement.
Facebook said that coronavirus-related searches on its platform would be greeted with an automatic pop-up featuring information from the WHO.
According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook is focused on curbing fake and harmful misinformation on social media.
Facebook owned Instagram also said that they are working to keep its users safe.
"To help people get relevant and up-to-date resources, we will start showing more information from @WHO and local health ministries at the top of Instagram’s Feed in some countries," Instagram said in a tweet.
