Aden/Sputnik: Five people were killed and over 20 injured as a result of a violent explosion that took place on Wednesday in Yemen’s Aden airport as the country’s new government arrived in the city following the inauguration ceremony, local media reported.

No minister of the newly-formed Yemeni government was injured as a result of the blast, the source said, adding that they were inside the plane at that moment.

All of the ministers were transferred to the Maasheeq presidential palace in Aden.

The source added that there were three blasts in a row, which rocked the airport terminal.

In addition, another Yemeni source suggested the explosions at the Aden airport being caused by a missile attack carried out from the southwestern province of Taiz, which is under control of the Shia rebel Houthi movement.

"The blasts at the Aden airport were triggered by missiles launched from Yemen's southwestern Taiz province, which is controlled by Houthis," the military source said.

Yemeni Minister of Information Moammar al-Eryani, in turn, accused the Houthi rebels of conducting an attack on the airport, affirming that all cabinet members stay safe.

Along with that information, some Yemeni officials, including the deputy transport minister and the deputy Aden governor, are reportedly among those injured.
